I have a 20 pound pomeranian mix, and I’m riding my bike to lose weight. Can I bring my dog with me, and for how long? He loves to run and be active, but I’m just not sure if he should be as much as he has. The doctor hasn’t gotten his insulin right yet, so I’m kind of worried.
Be real careful. Exercise is like free insulin because it burns up sugar. If your dog has insulin in it’s system from a shot and the blood sugar levels are near normal and you exercise, the combination could be deadly. The exercise will burn up glucose in the blood but if there is insulin working at the same time, the body can’t break down sugar and fats fast enough to keep the blood sugar from falling too fast so you have low blood sugar and that can be very bad. I would suggest only moderate exercise and never long runs like that such as a bike ride. If you see the dog getting disoriented or unusually anxious, it might need to eat something froma low. It’s a tough problem. Good luck.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for diabetes (yet). It really is all about controlling your diet, and if you are overweight, finding the right diet to help you lose the weight.
It’s important to work closely with your doctor or diabetes educator – because while you’re dieting, your blood sugar, insulin, and medications need special attention. No matter how heavy you are, you will significantly lower your blood sugar if you lose some weight.
The American Diabetes Assoc states that even losing 10 or 15 pounds has health benefits. It can:
Lower blood sugar
Reduce blood pressure
Improve cholesterol levels
Lighten the stress on hips, knees, ankles, and feet
Plus, you’ll probably have more energy, get around easier, and breathe easier.
They also say that people with diabetes maintain a healthy ratio of carbs, fat, and protein. The ideal is:
50% to 55% carbs
30% fat
10% to 15% protein
It’s a good idea to put together a meal plan and stick with it. But sometimes it’s hard to put something together when you don’t really know what’s "good" food and "bad" food for you. my mum has diabetic for 10 yrs and my both side(dad’s parents and mum’s parent) grandparents have diabetics. so will i also get? wat are the measures to be followed to avoid diabetic?.

I am diabetic. You should avoid high fat foods like fast food 1.e., pizza, restaurant hambugres, fries, mashed potatoes with gravy or butter, white bread, white pasta and white rice. These are all high in fat and/or carbs. Eat more fresh green and yellow vegetables. Salads with low fat dressings. Vegetables like corn, peas, lima beans are high in carbs. Also, avoid a lot of sweets. Save the sweets for a special occassion rather eat them every day. Low fat cheeses and 2% milk. If you do theses things every day you will lose wait. We have an epidemic of diabetes in this country due to our poor eating habits. Alcohol is very high in calories, also. Nave been diabetic for 21 yrs,
. and by correcting my diet I have lost weight and have no problems with the side effects of diabetes like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, neuropathy, Controled by diet abd one pill a day. Just wish I had changed my diet erlier in my life like you are choosing to do. Good Luck.(sorry, that’s lose weight not wait).

Week 35 is here and gone. Down to 4 more weeks. I am starting to get nervous to have a little one at home, but also very excited! His room is coming along nicely and I think we are only down to a few items to buy. I am getting sick of the Gestational Diabetes diet, I will be so happy when Pizza and Ice Cream are on the menu for dinner! Have a great week everyone and I am hoping to continue my videos for 4 more weeks!!! (Sorry so long this week, I guess I had a lot to talk about! Smiling)

La diabetes mellitus (DM) o diabetes sacarina es un síndrome orgánico multisistémico crónico que se caracteriza por un aumento de los niveles de glucosa en la sangre (conocido médicamente como hiperglucemia) resultado de concentraciones bajas de la hormona insulina o por su inadecuado uso por parte del cuerpo, que conducirá posteriormente a alteraciones en el metabolismo de los carbohidratos, lípidos y proteínas. La poliuria (producción excesiva de orina), la polidipsia (incremento de la sed), la pérdida de peso, algunas veces polifagia (aumento anormal de la necesidad de comer) y la visión borrosa son los síntomas cardinales de este padecimiento.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud reconoce tres formas de diabetes mellitus: tipo 1, tipo 2 y diabetes gestacional (ocurre durante el embarazo), cada una con diferentes causas y con distinta incidencia. Varios procesos patológicos están involucrados en el desarrollo de la diabetes, estos varían desde destrucción autoinmune de las células β del páncreas con la posterior deficiencia de insulina como consecuencia característica de la DM tipo 1, hasta anormalidades que resultan en la resistencia a la acción de la insulina como ocurre en la DM tipo 2. La etiología de la diabetes gestacional es parecida a la de la DM tipo 2, debido a que las hormonas del embarazo pueden crear insulinorresistencia en una mujer predispuesta genéticamente a este padecimiento.
Para el año 2000, de acuerdo con la OMS, se estimó que alrededor de 171 millones de personas eran diabéticos en el mundo y que llegarán a 370 millones en 2030.

This is the American Diabetes Association web site. It has all kinds of information on how to control your diabetes, food receipts, food charts and much much more.
Good luck to you. I’ve been a diabetic for 28 years and doing great.
Don’t go on the Atkins diet though. It is really bad for diabetics. You must have some carbohydrates in your diet. Just in the right quantities.
